20 teens arrested for trespassing at former Psych Center
MIDDLETOWN — Police say 20 teenagers who told them they wanted to be at a "scary place," were arrested on Wednesday night for trespassing at the former Middletown Psych Center.
The students of the Washingtonville High School were found in a fenced area next to an abandoned building at 22 Dorothea Dix Drive.
The teens told responding officers that they went inside because they had done a Google search of the scariest places in Orange County, and heard that building was in the “top five of scariest places to visit,” police say.
The building is one of the original buildings on the Psych center property and has been fenced off for over the past 10 years. The building formerly housed patients at the Psych Center.
Middletown police responded to a report of suspicious vehicles at 11:19 p.m. The teenagers, from Washingtonville, Campbell Hall, Rock Tavern or Monroe, range in age from 16 to 18.
All were given appearance tickets to return to the Middletown City Court on April 15.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office assisted police in processing the charges.
