Vic Mizzy, the man behind the well-known and often parodied "Addams Family" theme song has passed away at 93. Whyyyyyyy? His cause of death has been attributed to heart failure and most likely being very, very old.

Mizzy scored several other television shows and wrote some songs of his own, but few ditties remain as popular as the Addam's Family theme, with the exception of maybe 'Green Acres'.

May we all take a solemn moment and reflect on the playground version of the song. 'The Addams Family started/When Uncle Fester farted/They all became retarded/The Addams Family.

Children are so gifted.

A couple other Addams Family facts to throw at you while Halloween approaches: many people are unaware that the sitcom was based on the hilariously bleak and morbid comics of Charles Addams, which were featured in the New Yorker. The iconic family of strange mortals were not specifically given names but frequently appeared as reoccurring characters. Several years ago, the New York Public library on 42nd street had a display of his work.

Nor but in sleep findeth a cure for care.
Incertainty that once gave scope to dream
Of laughing enterprise and glory untold,
Is now a blackness that no stars redeem.
