NEWARK — Today's discovery of a decomposing body in a vacant building in downtown Newark is being investigated as a possible homicide, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said. An off-duty city police officer found the fully-clothed body just before noon in a former U.S. Postal Service building near the corner of Broad and West Kinney streets, said Katherine Carter, a prosecutor’s office spokeswoman. Off-duty Newark Police Lt. Carlos Figueroa made the discovery. The body, which has not been identified, was taken to the regional medical examiner’s office to determine cause of death.
