CAMDEN — Camden officials are moving forward with plans to demolish several abandoned homes and buildings that could pose an imminent danger to residents.
The Courier-Post reports 13 sites were recently taken down after being designated for emergency demolition. Among them were homes that were severely damaged by fires and other buildings — many of which housed squatters — that experts said were close to collapsing.
Overall, the city plans to demolish 107 buildings in the coming weeks, using a $2 million loan to pay for the work.
But officials say much more funding will be needed to remove the thousands of abandoned city homes and blighted buildings, including several hundred that have been deemed unsafe but stable.
Some properties, though, may be rehabilitated with funds obtained through state programs
