Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. was sworn in for his third term today and wasted no time in setting his agenda for the next four years.

"We have some serious business we have to get done this year," DiVincenzo told the crowd, which included some of the biggest names in state politics, right up to Gov. Chris Christie, who administered the oath of office. "It's not about being Democrat or Republican. It's about getting things done."

Civil service reform, pension reform, and health care reform comprised the main focus of DiVincenzo's address as the state, counties, and municipalities grapple with another hellish year for public coffers.

Despite getting only 27 percent of the vote in Essex, Christie, a native Newarker, has spent a lot of time in the city and the county and his alliances with DiVincenzo and Mayor Cory Booker have been touted as examples of bipartisanship.

Of DiVincenzo, Christie said, "He understands the issues that he is confronting and the problems he has to solve for the people of this county are much bigger than if you have a D or an R in front of your name."

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. is sworn in to his third term by N.J. Gov. Chris Christie. DiVincenzo's son Joseph (center) held the bible during the ceremony at Historic Essex County Courthouse.
