Three teenagers were arrested early Sunday morning at the abandoned Essex County hospital center on Fairview Avenue, the Essex County Sheriff's Office reported on Monday.
Sheriff's patrol officers on a routine inspection of the grounds heard the suspects making noise inside Building No. 5, which is located at 125 Fairview Ave., according to Sheriff Armando Fontoura.
The sheriff said Cedar Grove police were called for backup and helped to arrest Adrian Diaz, 18, and two 17-year-olds from Elizabeth and Linden.
The suspects were taken into custody at 2:15 a.m.
All three were issued summonses for defiant trespass.
The 17-year-olds were released to the custody of their parents and Diaz was released after a computer check showed no criminal warrants.
The suspects will appear in Cedar Grove municipal court at a later date, according to the sheriff.
