Lackawanna Cutoff to be retracked soon!

From my friend that works for NJ transit:

They are planning on retracking the cutoff in 3 phases, starting from the eastern portal. I forget all the town names he told me, but I will find out. He said as of last week, they had crews clearing the right of way.

Demonic and I were out there hiking and ran into some guys surveying the Rosevelt Tunnel. They were there for New Jersey Transit. They said the railway will be back in a few years.

The two open manholes have been welded shut and the gates at the bottom have also been welded to the bridge. They are also in the process of cutting down all the trees in the ROW.

Going to be interesting getting in there now....

Yea, gotta upload off the cell phone. tomorrow. They did a decent welding job too, all the way around the manhole. used stainless rod for some reason. I don't know how well stainless welding sticks to cast iron manhole covers...
